With the Republican National Convention drawing closer, Donald Trump dropped a potential hint Tuesday regarding who his running mate could be.
Trump met with Iowa
Sen. Joni Ernst on July 4 and addressed the meeting via Twitter.
Trump teased the meeting in a Tweet Monday, offering praise for the first-term senator.
According to
Politico, Ernst called her meeting with the presumptive Republican presidential nominee "a good conversation."
"I had a good conversation with Donald Trump today and we discussed what I am hearing from Iowans as I travel around the state on my 99 county tour, and the best path forward for our country," Ernst said.
"I will continue to share my insights with Donald about the need to strengthen our economy, keep our nation safe, and ensure America is always a strong, stabilizing force around the globe."
Trump also met with Indiana
Gov. Mike Pence on Sunday and came away "impressed" with the former congressman who became his state's governor in 2013.
Trump will not announce his running mate until the convention, slated for July 18-21 in Cleveland. The rumor mill has been churning for months on the topic, with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie reportedly on the
short list.
