Former FBI official Richard McFeely has withdrawn his name from consideration to become FBI director to replace James Comey, an ABC affiliate reported.

McFeely – on a shortlist of candidates who met with President Donald Trump earlier this week – told the White House of his decision Saturday, Washington, D.C., affiliate WJLA reported.

Remaining potential contenders include former Connecticut Independent Sen. Joe Lieberman, former Oklahoma GOP Gov. Frank Keating, and Andrew McCabe, the bureau's acting director.
