Roger Stone: Haley's Trump Insults Surprising

Roger Stone: Haley's Trump Insults Surprising

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley tried to shove a "stiletto" into Donald Trump's presidential campaign by using part of her State of the Union response to slam the billionaire developer — and there's no question the Republican hierarchy was behind it, GOP political consultant Roger Stone says.

"It's important to note Donald supported her financially in her race for governor and campaigned on her behalf … and he considers her a friend," Stone said Friday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"Therefore, it was surprising she seemed to come out of nowhere with this stiletto she tried to shove up under his rib cage."

While Haley didn't mention him by name, there was no doubt she was referring to Trump and his boisterous, shoot-from-the-hip style as she addressed the nation following President Barack Obama's State of the Union address Tuesday night.

"Some people think that you have to be the loudest voice in the room to make a difference. That is just not true. Often, the best thing we can do is turn down the volume," said Haley, who on Wednesday admitted on NBC's "Today" show that she was referring to the GOP presidential front-runner.

To add insult to injury, Haley's thumping of Trump was approved by the major domos of the Republican Party, according to Stone.

"It turns out her statement was vetted by the offices of [House Speaker Paul] Ryan and [Senate Majority Leader Mitch] McConnell," said Stone, who runs the political website StoneZone.com and writes for The Daily Caller.

"It gives you some illustration of [how] the congregational wing of the Republican Party would really like to shiv Donald Trump because he is uncontrollable."
