Donald Trump's continued strong stance against the Islamic State and other terrorist groups is still resonating with American voters, especially after the recent attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, best-selling conservative author Ed Klein told Newsmax TV on Friday.

"He's talking to the American public the way they want to be talked to: directly, honestly," Klein told "The Steve Malzberg Show" in an interview. "This is what they're thinking."

"This is what he's saying. It's working for him."

Klein's latest book is "Unlikeable: The Problem with Hillary" on the Democratic presidential front-runner, Hillary Clinton.

Trump continues to lead in national polls of the Republican presidential candidates, finishing at 36 percent in the latest CNN/ORC poll released on Friday.

The developer was 20 points ahead of his closest challenger, Ted Cruz.

"National security helps Republicans," Klein told Malzberg. "We are now in a period in which the vast majority of Americans are actually in fear for their lives."

"This should work for Republicans."
