I always thought the Jill Stein recount effort was more than a little strange.
How important is it to your supporters to prove you should have been credited for 0.09 percent of the vote instead of 0.08? We’re talking electron microscope-sized results here, not a vote total that would indicate future viability for the Green Party.
The only viability the recount demonstrated was in the Green Party’s — or at least Stein’s — ability to raise greenbacks.
First Stein said she needed to raise $2.5 million to fund recounts in three states. Then she revised the figure to $4.5 million. That didn’t bother me at the time, because it just served as additional proof of her utter cluelessness when it comes to political reality.
But that wasn’t the last revision. The next jump was to $7 million and the plea finally topped out, for now, at $9.5 million. This is starting to look like the budget for a Pentagon weapons program. With that kind of money Stein could have paid the Russians to rig the election.
Wait, that’s another column.
The whole effort was an expensive sideshow until the bitter-enders in Chappaqua, N.Y. decided to join the effort. Maybe that was the idea all along. Stein starts the ball rolling for recounts in swing states. Hillary overturns the election and as a reward for her service, appoints Stein as secretary of energy.
My advice is don’t print any new letterhead yet.
The Wisconsin recount has labored mightily and given birth to a mouse — one with orange hair to boot. After paying $3.5 million for a recount in the Packer’s home state, Stein discovers she paid $11,218.00 per changed vote to add 131 more votes to Donald Trump’s total!
It’s enough to make one faint at a 9/11 remembrance ceremony.
Since recounts aren’t working for Democrats, it looks like it’s off to Plan B or C, depending on how you count. For a while fake news was going to be the means to delegitimize Trump before he took office. This was working fine in the Washington, D.C. to New York City echo chamber until the public informed them the same media that assured voters Hillary would be the next president, is hardly the messenger to warn of fake news.
Now it’s Russian hackers who rigged the election in Trump’s favor. But if that’s really true, could Hillary be included as a co-conspirator, since she’s the one who provided the homebrew server with the incriminating evidence the Russians used in their evil plot?
