Barack Obama’s campaign for president attracted Hispanic voters with his promises of comprehensive immigration reform. These promises included amnesty and a path to citizenship for illegal aliens and their extended families. Linked to immigration reform was his promise of universal healthcare.
The Obama administration realizes that U.S. citizens have concerns about border control, the number of illegal aliens entering even with “enhanced” border security, and the stress illegal aliens place on education, healthcare, and social services. Because of the economic downturn, the number of aliens entering the United States illegally is down to about 800,000 a year, who still come expecting jobs and health benefits. They view Obamacare as “universal” and their only chance to get the world’s best medical care free.
As the saying goes, however there is no free lunch. Obamacare has costs and drawbacks for U.S. citizens but also for immigrants, legal and illegal. Among the drawbacks are the president’s two closest health advisers, Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel and Dr. David Blumenthal.
Emanuel, brother of White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, believes that the Hippocratic Oath (do no harm) is taken way too seriously by doctors. Blumenthal advocates slowing down medical innovation to control health spending and has no problem with healthcare “rationing” to save money. These medical advisers are reinterpreting medical ethics. Casting aside moral guidelines, they advocate federal legislation to provide government support for abortion, euthanasia, and confinement of the “mentally retarded.”
The cradle-to-grave proposals in Obamacare are rift with moral ambiguities, about which, little is said. The current U.S. Senate and House healthcare drafts share the following social engineering measures that offend many U.S. citizens and immigrants, especially those with religious and cultural heritages.
Abortion Funding. The proposed legislation would require all hospitals, health clinics, and medical staff to provide for abortions. No exception would be allowed for religious beliefs. Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey, D-Calif., has compared abortion to having one’s tonsils removed, and that is the tone of the proposed legislation. A health advisory board appointed by the president would decide which medical benefits are or are not in Obamacare. The president, a professed advocate of abortion, would make the procedure available in all future health plans. End-of-Life Counseling. The current healthcare bills being drafted by the Democrat majority in Congress appear to be incomprehensible by design. They include provisions for mandatory “end-of-life counseling” or “advanced care planning consultation” for all seniors (defined as anyone 65 years of age or older) to be scheduled every five years. Surely this provision was written by youthful staffers. Doesn’t the Obama administration realize that 65 is the new 50? The 2007 U.S. Census numbers 38 million persons 65 years or older. How many “end-of-life” counselors will be needed? Are these the “jobs, jobs, jobs” extolled by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.? Pelosi, 69, would be exempt from mandatory advanced care planning consultations, because the U.S. Congress would be exempt from Obamacare. Would Supreme Court justices also be exempt, such as the well-over-65 Justice John Paul Stevens and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg? Emanuel espouses that medical care should be “reserved for the non-disabled, not given to those who are irreversibly prevented from being or becoming participating citizens.” This kind of thinking coming out of the White House is reminiscent of “Soylent Green,” that classic Charlton Heston film set in a totalitarian state where the elderly were dispatched “humanely.” Obamacare would cut back on Medicare monies by reducing services to the elderly and the infirm. Funds would be redirected to provide for mandatory end-of-life counseling. Immigrants planning on bringing in elderly family members might think twice.
Mental Retardation. Curiously, this outdated phrase makes a reappearance in the proposed healthcare legislation. Democrat legislators are referring to the “Mentally Retarded,” as if no progress has been made in this field of medical science since the 1960s. Those Democrats pushing “comprehensive” healthcare legislation foresee the emptying of intermediate-care facilities and nursing homes, as the elderly are dispatched. Their creative solution for these empty buildings would be to institutionalize the “Mentally Retarded”. They might have first consulted those “Mentally Retarded” U.S. citizens who have jobs and who own homes. Immigrants, legal and illegal, need to realize that the U.S. lifestyle that attracted them may not survive in the new Obama America. Immigrants could find themselves in a totalitarian nation. Globalist Democrats see abortion as a population-control measure, and leftist “progressives” ensconced in the Obama administration see it as a tool in social engineering, adopting the disgraced eugenics of the past.
Apparently the much-touted cost savings of Obamacare will come by eliminating the unwanted unborn, seniors, and the infirm of all ages. The medical fate of individuals would be decided by a politically appointed medical review board empowered to suggest life-ending protocols.
Obamacare, by reducing the most vulnerable segments of the population, believes it can cut healthcare costs, protect the environment, and reverse climate change. Who knew that Obama’s “audacity of hope” would rest on the discarded concept of a master race? Immigrants, take note.
