Back around sixth grade my teacher, a sister of St. Joseph, told my class that we would live to see the day when we would experience the end of the United States as we knew it.
We would, she predicted, be faced with communists holding chains with which to bind us before tossing us into some dark dungeon.
That seemed pretty far-fetched at the time, but the warning was stern enough to lodge itself in my memory.
It doesn’t seem that far-fetched now. The Obama administration is taking the first steps toward establishing an authoritarian socialist regime, and is dead serious in going about it.
Nationalizing healthcare is the first goal. Once that’s achieved, it will prove a simple task to create laws and programs designed to impose its Marxist agenda.
Fortunately many Americans are awakening to the threat and are making it clear they won’t go into the darkness without a hell of a fight. Thanks largely to Fox’s Glenn Beck, the natives are restless and increasingly are letting Washington know it.
Barack Obama and his henchmen came into office with an advantage in numbers — a House top heavy with Democrats, and a Senate in Democratic hands thanks to the defection of Arlen Spector.
In the House they managed to ram through the so-called cap-and-trade bill — a measure that creates a new tax burden on the American people in the guise of combating the phony specter of alleged global warming while limiting our freedoms. Thankfully it remains moribund in the upper body, which like the House is grappling with healthcare reform measures.
The revelation of the horrendous background of Van Jones, Obama’s chosen energy czar, included some of his more outrageous beliefs — that President George W. Bush was complicit in the 9/11 attack for example. This helped drive Jones out and has led to background questions of the other unelected deputy fuhrers that the president has put in charge of just about every facet of our lives.
One is not permitted to draw parallels between the president’s actions upon taking office and those of Adolf Hitler but I urge my fellow Americans to take a look at “Triumph of the Will,” Leni Reifenstahl’s documentary of the 1934 Nazi party rally in Nuremburg, and come away not scared out of their wits as history attempts to repeat itself.
It’s all there, including speeches by Hitler’s deputy fuhrers pledging their undying allegiance to the leader and brigades of shovel-ready workers participating in Hitler’s economic stimulus program.
We are witnessing the attempted deification of Obama, even to subjecting school kids to mandatory lectures from the maximum leader. We already have the new brown shirts of the Service Employees International Union, whose bullying tactics have been on display during the congressional recess town hall meetings.
Looming ahead are the 2010 congressional elections where all 535 House members will be up for re-election. Those who won seats in 2008 by riding on Obama’s coattails won’t have that advantage next year, and many will be judged on how they vote on Obamacare.
According to the New York Times, fully 64 percent of those polled say how their lawmaker votes on healthcare will determine how they vote in 2010. Notes the Times: “Americans are still pretty divided over what to do about healthcare and a lot of folks are unsure how they want Congress and President Obama to act, but it’s still going to be a determining factor in how they vote in 2010? If you’re a member of Congress up for re-election next year, those are pretty scary statistics.”
Very scary. And thanks to Beck, they are probably frightened out of their wits. The public is awake and aware of what’s at stake. And that’s not good news for them.
