After reading and hearing dozens of conservative commentaries about why Mitt Romney and the Republicans lost the presidential election, they all had their respective reasons in their analysis, and they all seemed thoughtful and logical. After taking a week for me to almost recover from the shock of the results, my assessment is quite simple.
Facts don't matter.
At least, the facts don't matter to the liberals, and the conservatives who stayed home and did not vote. I already knew facts did not matter to liberals and Democrats, but for fewer conservatives and Republicans to turn out than they did for John McCain, it is unforgivable in my view if you care at all about the survival of this nation.
Many commentators made the case that the Democrats and Obama supporters did a better job of getting their people out to vote, but so what? Why does it take dynamite to blow conservatives off their anchovies to get to the polls and vote? And in many states there was early voting over several weeks, so people would not have to contend with big crowds and slow lines on Election Day.
Still others made the case that Mitt Romney was not "perfect" enough on all of their issues. Get over it! Recall what happened to the last perfect person who tried to save the world. He did not save everybody, but he saved the savable, and the fight to save others goes on.
Here are a few facts that obviously don't matter to liberals and those conservatives who did not vote:
The economy will continue to decline and another recession with negative growth is very likely.
The unemployment rate (whichever calculation you use) will go back up and stay up, meaning that millions more will be unemployed or underemployed.
A lot of medium- to small-size businesses will downsize or shut their doors altogether. This is not speculation as liberals believe. More than 2000 business owners told me so during our Job Creators Truth Tour.
Median household income will continue to decline, while the cost of gasoline and basic necessities will continue to rise. Medium income has already declined more than $4,000 per household in the last four years, while household costs have gone up.
Taxes will go up on families, investors and those businesses that survive. President Obama reaffirmed his position on raising taxes in a speech recently. The only question is by how much and on whom. He wrongly believes that raising taxes will help the economy, the national debt, and unemployment.
Everybody's health insurance costs will go up for the same coverage due to the intended and unintended consequences of Obamacare. Quality of care and accessibility will go down, because many doctors have indicated they will retire early or stop taking Medicare patients altogether. They can't afford to subsidize socialized government-controlled healthcare.
The federal debt and spending crises will continue, because neither the administration nor the Democrat-controlled Senate wants to restructure federal programs.
Gridlock in Congress will continue. Democrats are content with the coming fiscal calamity, and they will continue to blame Republicans for not just rolling over to their distorted liberal agenda.
The United States of America will be more like the United States of Europe in four more years, as our economic, fiscal, and national security continue to erode.
These facts are undeniable based on the results of the last four years. Maybe the conservatives who did not vote were unaware of the facts. If so, we have a huge educational task ahead of us. If not, the challenge is even greater.
As the conservative commentator Armstrong Williams pointed out in his assessment of the Romney defeat, "The only good that will come out of Tuesday's election is suffering, which is the best teacher."
The suffering has begun. Pay attention!
