Serbian President, Netanyahu Meet on Sidelines at UN

By    |   Thursday, 26 September 2024 06:56 PM EDT

As the 79th session of the U.N. General Assembly is underway in New York, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed the situation in Kosovo and Israel during a meeting on the sidelines, according to a local news outlet via Nova.

Yesterday, Israel's U.N. ambassador Danny Danon spoke about the tens of thousands of Israelis who were displaced because of rocket attacks as a result of Hezbollah's "blatant violations" of U.N. resolutions.

The head of the Palestinian Authority denounced Israel and its offensive in the Gaza Strip in front of world leaders Thursday, appealing to other nations to stop what he called a "genocidal war" against a place and people he said had been totally destroyed.

Mahmoud Abbas used the rostrum of the U.N. General Assembly as he typically does — to criticize Israel. But this was the first time he did so since the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks by Hamas on Israel that triggered an Israeli military operation that has devastated the occupied Gaza Strip.

Abbas strode to the podium to loud applause and a few unintelligible shouts. His first words were a sentence repeated three times: "We will not leave. We will not leave. We will not leave."

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
