The Washington Post has added its voice to those condemning the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) for backing unions trying to prevent Boeing from opening a new plant in South Carolina.
The decision “substitutes the government’s judgment for that of the company,” the Post said in an editorial. “This is neither good law nor good business.”
The NLRB ruled that Boeing’s decision to build the plant to make the Dreamliner plane was illegal because the company was punishing unionized workers in Washington State for previous strikes.
Boeing countered that it has no plans to cut jobs in the Pacific Northwest, but rather, it merely wants to add new ones in North Charleston. The company called the decision “indisputably the most consequential — and destructive — remedy ever sought by an officer of the NLRB.”
The Post agreed. “Employers who engage in unfair labor practices should be penalized. But the NLRB’s move goes too far,” the editorial said.
