SHERIDAN, Wyo. (AP) — Former Vice President Dick Cheney has eulogized former Wyoming U.S. Sen. Malcolm Wallop as a principled friend and public servant with the same qualities as President Ronald Reagan.
Wallop died last week at age 78 at his ranch near Big Horn in northern Wyoming. He served in the Senate from 1977 to 1995.
His funeral was held Thursday in Sheridan. About 300 family, friends and dignitaries, including former U.S. Sen. Alan Simpson, current U.S. Sens. Mike Enzi and John Barrasso and Gov. Matt Mead, packed St. Peter's Episcopal Church.
Cheney and Simpson served with Wallop for 10 years as Wyoming's congressional delegation.
Cheney says Wallop was a key ally of Reagan's in Congress, advocating for a spaced-based anti-missile defense system and tax reforms.
