Some hospitals in the United States are "hoarding" ventilators but they need to "release them" to hospitals that need them amid the coronavirus pandemic, President Donald Trump said Sunday.
"We do have a problem of hoarding. We have some healthcare workers, some hospitals, frankly, individual hospitals and hospital chains, we have them hoarding equipment, including ventilators," Trump said at the start of a White House meeting.
Trump added that hospitals that do not need their stock of ventilators need to "release them" to hospitals who are in need of them as healthcare workers nationwide battle the COVID-19 virus. In severe cases, the virus causes breathing problems that require patients to be put on a ventilator.
Trump said later, "I don't want people to hoard."
The federal government has ordered General Motors to make ventilators for use during the pandemic, and on Saturday it was reported that the Pentagon partnered with four companies to build 8,000 more.
