PI: Joran Van Der Sloot Had $25K From FBI Sting

Wednesday, 09 June 2010 11:31 AM EDT

A private investigator who helped build an extortion case against Joran Van der Sloot says the young Dutchman should have been arrested before he went to Peru.

Bo Dietl says FBI agents recorded a meeting last month in Aruba where Van der Sloot requested money from a lawyer for the family of Natalee Holloway in exchange for information about her 2005 disappearance.

The retired New York City detective said Wednesday that Van der Sloot received $25,000 in the sting operation before he left for Peru. The young Dutchman is now accused of killing a woman in his Lima hotel room.

Dietl says Van der Sloot claimed in the meeting that he and his father buried Holloway after she hit her head and died, but the claim proved false.
