The grandfather of a 10-year-old victim of the mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, maintains the U.S. is no longer a nation under God, but a nation "under guns."
Victor Cabrales, the grandfather of Eliahna Torres made his comments during an interview on MSNBC on Monday. The girl was one of 19 students murdered at Robb Elementary School last week. Two teachers were also shot and killed.
His remarks came after President Joe Biden visited Uvalde on Sunday.
"Well, I was, you know, like I hear him say we are one nation under God, and really we ain't no more," he said. "We're under guns."
Laura Cabrales, the girl's aunt said: "He [Biden] has power to change it, and he can do it. He can. And it needs to change because how many more lives are going to be taken? And another family's going lose their child or their niece, their cousins."
Eliahna's grandfather noted the girl's love for softball.
"Two weeks ago we were playing here — playing here," he said. "I bought her a new glove. She never had a chance to play in a game."
Mckinzie Hinojosa, Eliahna's cousin said she respected Biden's decision to mourn with the grieving residents of Uvalde, The Associated Press reported.
"It's more than mourning," she said. "We want change. We want action. It continues to be something that happens over and over and over. A mass shooting happens. It's on the news. People cry. Then it's gone. Nobody cares. And then it happens again. And again."
