WASHINGTON (AP) — Former President Jimmy Carter and first lady Rosalynn Carter are helping Habitat for Humanity volunteers build and rehabilitate homes in Washington.
Just days after spending time in an Ohio hospital with a viral infection, Carter was hammering nails and hoisting new home frames into place on Monday with Habitat volunteers.
Habitat for Humanity plans to build six homes and rehabilitate another six in Washington's Ivy City neighborhood. It's one part of a project to construct or repair a total of 86 homes in Washington, Baltimore, Annapolis, Md., St. Paul, Minn. and Birmingham, Ala.
Carter told CBS's "The Early Show" on Monday morning that he feels fine after his time in the hospital and has "been out working ever since."
