Envelopes With White Powder Sent to Fed Buildings

Monday, 14 June 2010 07:06 PM EDT

Authorities say envelopes with white powder have been found in four federal buildings in Washington and Idaho, triggering at least two evacuations.

Bellevue police Officer Carla Iafrate says a building with offices of the Internal Revenue Service was evacuated Monday afternoon after an employee in the criminal investigations unit opened an envelope with white powder.

Iafrate says the employee was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

FBI Special Agent Frederick Gutt says that envelopes with white powder were also found in an FBI building in Spokane, Wash., a federal building in Seattle and the U.S. Attorney's office in Boise, Idaho, which was evacuated.

Authorities have not determined what the powder is. No injuries were reported.
