Saturday, 13 November 2010 02:49 PM EST

LIVINGSTON, N.Y. (AP) — A World War II military-style airplane has crash landed in upstate New York, and the pilot is injured.

State Police Senior Investigator Gary Mazzacano told the Times Union of Albany that the two-seater lost power and crashed onto a grass runway Friday evening at an airport in Livingston, more than 30 miles south of Albany.

State police say the 62-year-old pilot, Erik Beebe of Kinderhook, was sent to the hospital with possible internal injuries, lacerations to his forehead and a fractured ankle. A 58-year-old passenger, Steve Gilger of East Chatham, refused treatment at the scene.

The plane, a 1940 Aeronca L-3, is considered a light observation aircraft. It was used to support ground forces and direct artillery fire on enemy troops.
