Ohio authorities have issued a nationwide arrest warrant on identity fraud charges for the director of a Florida-based charity that purports to raise money for U.S. Navy veterans.
Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray and Hamilton County prosecutor Joseph Deters (DEE'-tuhrz) said Thursday that U.S. Navy Veterans Association Director Bobby Thompson disappeared in June. Federal internal revenue officials and state authorities in at least seven states are seeking information on the association.
Cordray says Ohio investigators determined Thompson stole someone's birth date and Social Security number and used them in a seven-year scam involving millions of dollars.
Investigators say Thompson used the false identity in 2003 to rent a Cincinnati post office mailbox where he collected donations.
The association's website doesn't show any way to contact Thompson.
