Gallup: Majority Believe US Best Nation for ‘Individual Freedoms’

By    |   Monday, 07 January 2013 05:40 PM EST

Americans believe that, as residents of the United States, they enjoy greater individual freedoms, quality of life, and the opportunity to get ahead — according to a new USA Today/Gallup poll.

But the survey of 1,025 adults conducted Dec. 14-17 found that many believed that — when compared to other industrialized nations — the United States is no better than average when it came to its economic, governmental, and healthcare systems.

Seventy-seven percent of those surveyed said that the US is the best nation when it comes to “individual freedoms,” the survey found — followed by the “quality of life,” at 65 percent, and “the opportunity for people to get ahead,” at 55 percent.

However, only 46 percent of the adults responding said they admired the nation’s system of government, while 34 percent were less enamored of the US economy — and only 29 percent said the nation’s healthcare system was as advanced as those of other industrialized countries, the survey found.
