Two students were robbed at gunpoint on the campus of Florida State University on August 16, according to TV station WTXL.

The news report said that the students were robbed by a male who approached them armed with a handgun and demanded their belongings. The students complied and the suspect fled the scene. The students were not hurt.

Republican Sen. Miguel Diaz de la Portilla of Miami announced in February that he would not schedule a hearing that would allow concealed weapons on college campuses, according to Florida's Herald Tribune.

"I think there are better ways to address the issue of campus safety and security. I think the dangers outweigh the potential and perceived benefits of passing a bill," Portilla said at the time. However, he has not addressed the robbery.

Florida State students have been victims of gun attacks before.

In 2014, three students were wounded in a shooting attack at the Florida State University campus library. Campus police killed the shooter.

Students for Concealed Carry is a nonpartisan student group that calls for concealed-carry rules for campuses. After the 2014 shooting, the group's FSU chapter posted on Facebook that one student who was near the shooting attack was a U.S. Army Infantry combat veteran who could have foiled the attack, but was not allowed to carry a firearm.
