Attorney: Jetblue Attendant in NYC Flap Resigned

Sunday, 05 September 2010 04:35 PM EDT

A lawyer says a JetBlue flight attendant infamous for jumping down a plane's emergency chute in New York City resigned from his job and wasn't fired by the airline.

Steven Slater's attorney says he resigned from JetBlue Airways Corp. on Wednesday. The airline said Saturday he was no longer an employee but didn't give any details.

Attorney Daniel J. Horwitz says he and Slater are working out some details with the airline but won't get into specifics.

Slater had been suspended pending an investigation into a profanity-laced loudspeaker tirade and exit down a plane's emergency chute at John F. Kennedy International Airport following a flight from Pittsburgh on Aug. 9.

Slater has been charged with criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and trespassing. His lawyer says a passenger's "lack of civility" prompted his behavior.
