Ex-Wife Defends Flight Attendant Who Had Meltdown

Thursday, 12 August 2010 09:17 AM EDT

The ex-wife of the JetBlue employee who left the job in spectacular fashion describes him as a consummate flight attendant who would always act in the most appropriate manner.

Cynthia Susanne said Thursday on ABC's "Good Morning America" that she does not believe some passengers' suggestions that Steven Slater started the confrontation that ended with him exiting a parked plane via an emergency chute at New York's Kennedy Airport.

She says Slater is extraordinarily tolerant and patient.

Susanne says she hasn't spoken to him since the confrontation on the Pittsburgh-to-New York flight. But she says he probably was as baffled as she about the attention it's getting.

The couple have a son together.

Slater is out on bail after being arraigned on criminal mischief and reckless endangerment charges.
