A library worker at American University will keep his job after clashing with a student who planned to burn the U.S. flag during a campus protest against President-elect Donald Trump.
Scott O'Beirne had been placed on administrative leave after he allegedly scuffled with the female student and snatched an about-to-be-burned American flag out of her hands, according to The Eagle.
But the university has allowed O'Beirne to return to work as Academic Multimedia Services Coordinator after concluding he is "genuinely contrite and understands the necessity not to obstruct others from expressing their views," the school's student newspaper says.
The melee occurred the day after the presidential election that saw the billionaire real-estate tycoon triumph over Hillary Clinton.
The Eagle says O'Beirne has been reprimanded by the university in the past, including at least two disciplinary policy violations.
