UC Berkeley — widely known for its activism against the Vietnam War — is returning to political protest next week with an anti-Donald Trump rally staged by the school’s faculty.

Five professors from UC Berkeley and one from UC Davis will speak on "immigration, Islamophobia, women & gender, whiteness and masculinity, law and order, and democracy," organizers of the "UC Berkeley Trump Teach-In" said on their Facebook page.

"Trump’s campaign has split the Republican party, driven deeper the political divide inside the United States and raised the specter of American fascism.

"[His] campaign has been fueled by a sharp rise in racism and bigotry, sexism and misogyny, xenophobia and Islamophobia, Alt-right white supremacy and anti-Semitism, exhortations to physical violence."

As well, the group added, Trump has made "repeated promises to jail his political opponent, and now videotaped evidence of Mr. Trump bragging about sexually assaulting women."

The purpose of the event is to "foster student voter education about the perils posed by Trump and what he represents for our university, our communities and our country," the group said. "Youth voter turnout is more important this year than ever before."

UC Berkeley Chancellor Nicholas Dirks has warned professors not to use public resources or politically campaign for or against candidates or ballot measures, The College Fix reports.

"University employees have a constitutional right to participate in political advocacy in their capacity as private citizens, but may not lawfully use public resources to engage in political campaigning for or against candidates or ballot measures," he said in an email.

"And [they] should take care to avoid any implication that their private political activities are carried out in their University capacities or are otherwise endorsed by the University."

The "teach-in" will be held Tuesday from 12-1 p.m. in Sproul Plaza. In the 1960s, Berkeley was known for student activism with the Free Speech Movement of 1964 and protests against the war in Vietnam.
