Twitter has suspended the account of someone it claims was posing as an antifa organization but was linked to the account of a white supremacist group and inciting violence amid the riots in the aftermath of a man who died in police custody in Minneapolis, NBC News reported.

NBC quoted an unidentified spokesman from Twitter saying the account violated its platform manipulation and spam policy for the creation of a fake account.

Reportedly, @ANTIFA_US, tweeted, “Tonight’s the night, Comrades,” with a brown raised fist emoji. It added “Tonight we say 'F--- The City' and we move into the residential areas... the white hoods.... and we take what's ours …”

NBC said Twitter identified the account as associated with Identity Evropa, a Washington-based white supremacist group rebranded as the American Identity Movement.

CBS News reported that Twitter said it targeted other fake accounts run by Identity Evropa, but did not provide examples.

Antifa, short for antifacist, is the banner uniting radical leftist groups who have been accused of several violent incidents including the storming of a federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in Portland in 2018.

President Donald Trump on Sunday said that the federal government would declare antifa as a domestic terrorist organization, saying the affiliated groups were fomenting and inciting violence in the wake of the death of George Floyd.

Floyd died on Memorial Day after being arrested for using a counterfeit $20 bill at a local grocery store. He was seen in a widely circulated video lying prone beside a police car while being restrained by an officer with a knee on his neck.

Four officers involved in the arrest have been terminated by the Minneapolis Police Department and the officer who was seen restraining Floyd has been arrested and charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.
