Trump Saved One More ‘Surprise’ for Local Fla. GOP

By    |   Wednesday, 22 August 2012 05:17 PM EDT

Real-estate mogul Donald Trump, who is planning an “amazing” surprise in the opening moments of the Republican National Convention, apparently saved one more surprise for the Republican Party of Sarasota County, Fla. on the eve of the RNC.

The organization’s "2012 Statesman Dinner" honoring Trump sold out in, well, Trump fashion.

“This is the largest crowd we have ever had attend a ticketed function," party chairman Joe Gruters told the Tampa Bay Times on Wednesday. "There has never been anything like it, the press coverage, the excitement and the overwhelming number of people wanting to witness Mr. Trump receive the honor of Statesman of the Year has been bigger than anything we have ever dealt with before."

The organization has sold more than 950 tickets for the Aug. 26 event, according to the report.

While the billionaire host of the hit NBC show "Celebrity Apprentice," declined to say exactly what the Aug. 27 surprise might be, he has said that he won’t be endorsing the re-election effort of President Barack Obama, nor will the surprise be damaging to the Republican ticket of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.

“I was asked to speak and I’m doing something else,” he told Fox’s Neil Cavuto in a recent interview. “It’s going to be quite exciting and hopefully quite amazing.”
