Texas will require Louisiana drivers entering the state to self-quarantine for 14 days, reports NBC affiliate KXAN.

Additionally, air travelers from Miami, Atlanta, Detroit, Chicago, and anywhere in California and Washington will also be forced to self-quarantine for two weeks in Texas. On Thursday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced an executive order requiring a mandatory self-quarantine for anyone flying from airports in New Jersey, New York, New Orleans, and Connecticut.

More than 150 people have died in Louisiana from coronavirus and nearly 4,000 have been infected.

Travelers entering Texas must fill out DPS forms and be subjected to follow-up check-ins from state troopers. Violators face fines of up to $1,000, up to 180 days in jail, or "both," Abbott said.

"Most of these numbers that we've seen so far are the result of personal interactions before the distancing practices," Abbott said during a press conference Sunday. "So hopefully the numbers improve as we move ahead."

Abbott also announced that the Dallas Convention Center will get Texas' first field hospital for coronavirus. The space for 250 beds can expand to 1,400.

The move comes as President Donald Trump extended social distancing guidelines to April 30 in an effort to stem the spread of coronavirus.
