Christie Pushes for Faster Storm Recovery in NJ

Friday, 02 November 2012 06:20 AM EDT

Gov. Chris Christie has announced a series of plans intended to speed New Jersey's recovery from the devastating storm that hit this week.

The Republican governor says a dozen other states are sending utility crews to help restore power. The governor said Thursday that the state's electric companies should throw out their playbooks and use the influx of crews to get power turned on faster.

He also says New Jersey is borrowing federally owned rail cars to help get New Jersey Transit's train system running faster.

And he says he may order schools to be open next Thursday and Friday, the days of the now-canceled teachers' convention. But union officials say it does not make sense to open schools then because many families have plans to be away.
