Friends of disgraced former International Monetary Fund boss Dominique Strauss-Kahn have failed in their alleged attempts to pay off the family of the hotel maid he is accused of assaulting, reports the
New York Post.
The Post quotes the unnamed woman’s brother, identified as Mamoudou, who lives in a poor village of Guinea, West Africa, as saying, "I heard the news on the radio, and honestly, I do not know what happened. I want to speak to my sister.”
The newspaper reported Tuesday that friends of Strauss-Kahn, who resigned after being arrested in New York City on sexual assault charges, had attempted to entice the woman to drop the charges in exchange for “a seven-figure sum.”
Mamoudou said the Muslim family is “above material things. Even if you are a billionaire, we don't care. The most important thing for us is how you follow God's path."
Meanwhile, Strauss-Kahn apparently is having trouble finding a place to live in the Big Apple as he awaits a court hearing. Residents of the apartment building in Lower Manhattan that was going to serve as his temporary home until he and his wife located a long-term residence don’t care for the massive media presence camped outside, according to
MyFox.com. The couple has run into similar concerns at other buildings.
