An advocacy group is pushing for gays and lesbians to be allowed to march openly in Boston's St. Patrick's Day parade, but a deal with parade organizers isn't finalized.
Kara Coredini of the advocacy group MassEquality had said Saturday that gay veterans would be allowed to march under its banner as part of a tentative deal with parade organizers.
The sticking point holding up the deal appears to be whether and how group members can identify themselves in the parade. Coredini said Monday marchers want to be able to identify themselves as members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
The parade has traditionally rejected gay groups, and its lead organizer has said planners don't want to turn it into a demonstration for gay rights.
Coredini says both sides met Sunday to discuss concerns.
