A local man in Sioux City, Iowa, was charged with burglarizing three downtown businesses – including a bank – but stealing only hand sanitizer, police said.
Mark Gray, 39, was arrested shortly before 6 a.m. at the site of the third business he was charged with breaking into, a restaurant, which had a broken window and Gray was found inside, according to the police report.
He was being held at the Woodbury County Jail on $6,000 bail on three counts of third-degree burglary for the early morning break-ins on Aug. 4, the SmokingGun.com reported.
According to police, Gray’s spree began about 12:15 a.m. when he broke a window to obtain entry to Counseling & Support Services. Police said they were unaware of any missing items.
He next hit the Security National Bank, this time using a tool to smash the glass door, “entered into the lobby area and stole the hand sanitizer from the bank. He then fled,” the police report said.
His last stop was the Trattoria Fresco, where he was arrested. Gray told police afterward that he “searched around for things of value, mainly money that he could steal.”
Gray is currently on probation for a 2019 burglary conviction.
