A student survivor of last week's massacre at a Florida school says CNN gave him a scripted question to ask at its town hall Wednesday night, eschewing one he wanted to ask.

Not only did Colton Haab decline, he decided not to attend the town hall in Sunrise, Florida, an event hosted by CNN featuring Sen. Marco Rubio, Dana Loesch of the NRA, Sen. Bill Nelson, among others.

"CNN had originally asked me to write a speech and questions and it ended up being all scripted," Haab told local ABC affiliate WPLG-TV. "I don't think that it's going get anything accomplished. It's not gonna ask the true questions that all the parents and teachers and students have."

The question Haab wanted to ask: His idea of using veterans as armed guards.

Haab, a member of the Junior ROTC at Marjory Stoneman Douglas in Parkland, site of last week's massacre that left 17 dead, shielded students during the shooting, WPLG reported.

CNN on Thursday released a statement denying that it gave Haab — or anyone — else a scripted question, RealClearPolitics reported.

"CNN did not, and does not, script any questions for town hall meetings, ever."
