Fifty-six percent of parents say it is unsafe to send children back to school for in-person classes in the fall during the pandemic, according to a new poll by The Washington Post-Schar School.
Forty-four percent say it is safe for their children to go back to classrooms.
Here are the results of the poll, conducted by Ipsos:
- 44% of parents want their schools to offer a mix of in-person and online classes.
- 39% favor an all-virtual education.
- 16% want a full in-person school.
- 57% of parents mainly leave home to work, compared to 42% who are mainly working from home.
- 63% disapprove of the way the Trump administration is handling school reopenings, while 36% approve.
- 73% worry that they or someone in their immediate family might catch COVID-19, compared to 27% who are not worried.
The poll conducted July 24-31, surveyed 1,185 parents with children entering kindergarten through 12th-grade. The margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
