A new survey found less than two-thirds of middle- and high school-aged children feel safe at school amid threats of gun violence across the nation.

Key results from the USA Today/Ipsos Poll:

  • 80 percent of Americans aged 13-17 said their parents have had serious talks with  them about guns in school, compared to just 38 percent of Americans aged 18-24.
  • 63 percent of 13- to 17-year-olds said they feel safe at school.
  • 82 percent of both aforementioned age groups said schools should hold active shooter drills.
  • A combined 75 percent said people who are treated for mental illness should not own firearms, while 50 percent said gun control measures and stronger background checks will prevent more mass shootings.
  • Among 13- to 17-year-olds, 63 percent said semiautomatic weapons like the AR-15 rifle should be outlawed in the U.S. 44 percent of people aged 18-14 said the same.
  • A combined 29 percent of both age groups said arming teachers in schools is a good idea.

In the weeks since last month's high school massacre in Florida, protests have erupted across the U.S. as students and gun control groups push for lawmakers to do something about gun violence.

The March For Our Lives will take place in several U.S. cities on Saturday.
