Dr. Samadi to NewsmaxTV: Trump Admin Has Done Tremendous Job With Coronavirus

Dr. David Samadi, the Director of Men's Health at St. Francis Hospital, on Monday defended the Trump administration’s response to the coronavirus pandemic and suggested there was no reason to panic.

“We are thoughtful and we have a lot of great scientists and doctors and our healthcare system is still equipped with some of the best ICU’s and infectious disease (experts),” Samadi said during an appearance on Newsmax TV’s “Greg Kelly Reports.”

“We’re also learning from the mistakes that other people have made – in China, in South Korea, in Iran and other places – and we are wiser. I think a lot of credit should go to President Trump and the U.S. task force for doing things that we probably didn’t do during the time of Ebola.”

More than 182,00 people worldwide have been infected by the virus, which originated in Wuhan, China, and more than 7,000 have died. In the U.S., 983 people have been infected and 86 people have died.

The White House on Monday advised all Americans to avoid groups of more than 10 and urged older people to stay home altogether in a new set of guidelines designed to fight the spread of the virus.

Trump predicted the outbreak wouldn’t be contained until at least the summer and suggested a recession was possible.

Testing Americans for the virus plagued the administration’s early response, but Trump on Monday said those issues were resolved and gave himself a perfect 10 out of 10 when asked how he would grade his response to the pandemic.

"It seems to me that if we do a really good job, we'll not only hold the death down to a level that is much lower than the other way, had we not done a good job," Trump said during an afternoon coronavirus task force briefing.

Samadi agreed with the assessment.

“It’s very unfortunate that some of the media is using this and making this virus and weaponizing an attack on the president. I think we need to put this aside, I think we should all act as Americans. This is a time of crisis that we need to all get together and acting on why is the test not there. This is a long process, this is a game that is new to all of us. We are going to be making mistakes. This is not the time to go after President Trump and his team.”
