A crowd packed Sen. Marco Rubio’s old Las Vegas grade school on Saturday to cheer a rousing speech from the Florida Republican, who said President Barack Obama “wants to fund a big government experiment,” the
Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
Rubio, a possible running mate for Mitt Romney, attended grade school in Las Vegas from 1979 to 1985 before his family moved back to Miami in 1985, the Review-Journal reported. Rubio, speaking at the same school, pointed to one of his old classrooms during the visit.
"November is not the time to go backward to the dark days of history,'" Rubio told the cheering crowd of about 800.
"Obama wants to fund a big government experiment," Rubio said, according to the Review-Journal. "That's hurting you."
Rubio also took a dig at Obama’s “You didn’t build that” line.
"If you built the business, you built the business," Rubio said to applause, the Review-Journal reported.
Referring to Obama, Rubio told the packed crowd, "He doesn't believe in the free enterprise system and, quite frankly, he doesn't understand it.”
