NY Times: Romney and Ryan Really Do Like Each Other

By    |   Wednesday, 15 August 2012 02:01 PM EDT

The personal chemistry between the two men on the Republican presidential ticket is palpable, real and plain to see, the New York Times believes.

Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan actually like each other and there is no forced bonhomie between them, the paper says, calling their relationship “the most closely watched bromance in American politics.”

“The most intriguing dimension of the Romney-Ryan partnership is the unmistakable sense that the two men thoroughly enjoy each other’s company,” the paper of record said Wednesday.

“During the first 48 hours as the Republican ticket, they often seemed like a pair of long-lost, hyper-earnest, spreadsheet-loving cousins. They rarely left each other’s sight, exchanging hugs, backslaps and knowing smiles, as if they knew their time together might be short-lived.”

The paper said Romney’s advisers are lobbying to have the two men spend as much time as possible on the campaign trail together over the next few weeks.

The two even cry in synch, the Times said. Both men — as well as Romney’s wife, Ann —started to tear-up during a weekend campaign rally in Wisconsin when they were given a “thunderous welcome by the crowd.

But Ryan’s wife, Janna, is not yet on the same page. When Romney offered her the microphone to say a few words, she shook her head and declined.
