Rep. Miller: Continue Guards on Mexico Border

Many Americans are worried about the drug violence near our border with Mexico, and Rep. Candice Miller, R-Mich., is giving voice to those concerns. The chairwoman of the House Homeland Security subcommittee on border and maritime security wants the White House to continue the National Guard’s presence in the area and possibly send U.S. Army troops to fight the violence, The Hill reports.

miller, guards, mexico, border“The complexion of the dynamics of what’s happening along the southern border has changed rather radically and dramatically in the last several years and you could make an analogy that it’s sort of like a warzone down there,” she told the news service.

It would be a “serious mistake” for the White House not to re-authorize deployment of National Guard troops to the border region after their scheduled end date of June 30, Miller said.
