Reid: Romney Has Sullied Mormonism

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., is once more on the attack against Mitt Romney, saying in a conference call for reporters Monday that he agrees with an author who claims Romney has "sullied" the Mormon faith.

Both Reid and the author, Gregory Prince, are Mormons.

"He [Romney] is coming to a state where there are a lot of members of the LDS [Latter Day Saints] Church," Reid said ahead of Romney’s Friday visit to Nevada, according to The Salt Lake Tribune. "They understand that he is not the face of Mormonism."

Prince wrote in the Huffington Post that he backed Romney’s presidential bid in 2008 but is upset over his comments that 47 percent of Americans feel entitled to government aid.

"Do not judge Mormonism on the basis of the Mitt Romney that was unveiled to the public this week," Prince stated. "He is not the face of Mormonism."

As for Reid, he said on the conference call that he agrees with Prince. “He [Prince] said that Romney has sullied the religion that [they] share," Reid said. "And he’s so disappointed that in his words, ‘It’s a good religion and he’s hiding from it.’"
