The Reedy Creek Improvement District met for the first time since its special rights were stripped away by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

Although the issue was not part of Wednesday’s agenda, Jon Shirey, President of Reedy Creek Professional Firefighters, did ask what the future holds for his members.

"After I finished my speech, I said, you know, does anyone have any questions or comments, concerns, I’ll be happy to answer them, and there was nothing whatsoever from anyone in District leadership and they immediately adjourned the meeting right after," said Shirey.

The meeting consisted of various routine topics such as the consideration of request to appoint Ms. Tracy Borden as Assistant Clerk for the Board of Supervisors and Flamingo Crossings Pedestrian Bridges – Amendment of Professional Services Agreement.

The only public statement Reedy Creek published, in regards to the actions taken by the Sunshine State, was on April 21, prior to the meeting:

"In light of the State of Florida’s pledge to the district’s bondholders, Reedy Creek expects to explore its options while continuing its present operations, including levying and collecting its ad valorem taxes and collecting its utility revenues, paying debt service on its ad valorem tax bonds and utility revenue bonds, complying with its bond covenants and operating and maintaining its properties."

The laws stripping Disney’s special privileges will take effect in June 2023.
