The hiker whose heroic story of how he cut off his right hand to save himself became the basis for the Oscar-nominated movie "127 Hours" has been arrested for domestic violence.
Aron Ralston was trapped in a canyon in Utah when an 800 lb. boulder fell on his right hand, trapping him for more than five days. Eventually he amputated his lower arm with a pocket knife to free himself.
Ralston, 38, was arrested Saturday in Denver on one count of assault and one of causing wrongs to minors,
the New York Daily News reports. He was held in jail over the weekend. A 38-year-old woman, Vita Shannon, was arrested on the same counts. The News said the two had been planning to buy a property together, but Shannon had backed out of the deal.
Ralston, who is married with a two-year-old son, became famous after director Danny Boyle made the film about his harrowing ordeal. James Franco portrayed him in the 2010 movie, which was nominated for six Academy Awards.
