Al Qaida's Twitter site has been suspended less than a week after it appeared online.
The Arabic-language account,@shomokhalislam, which went online Sept. 24, was yanked Sunday,
the Daily Caller reported.
The account belonged to the Shamukh al-Islam website, a reportedly members-only jihadist forum — and went down less than 50 tweets later,
the Daily Mail reported.
Twitter didn't comment, citing security and privacy reasons, but maintains a policy for suspending accounts in its rules and "abusive behavior"
policy.
The Daily Mail noted the account’s suspension came only hours after a critical report by
The Blaze on Saturday.
Some of the postings, translated to English, were accounts of operations. Others were religious decrees and links to statements on the Shamukh al-Islam website and YouTube videos, the Daily Mail reported.
"We’ve seen terrorist groups make increasingly effective use of social media, particularly Twitter and Facebook, in recent years," Patrick Poole, a counterterrorism expert,
told the Washington Times.
"Not only is this important for propaganda purposes but also recruitment."
