Workers and cast members have walked off the set of a film that features Hollywood actor Jon Voight in protest of the movie's pro-life angle.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is co-directed by Nick Loeb and Cathy Allyn and has faced challenges during its shooting in New Orleans.
Loeb told the Reporter that one crew member who was working as an electrician cursed in his face and quit.
"When I told her I was [the director], she told me to go [expletive] myself," Loeb said. "Then she threw her headset on the ground and walked off."
The film is about the landmark 1973 Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion nationwide. Loeb and Allyn have been tight-lipped about the movie, likely because abortion is such a politically polarizing topic. They began shooting in New Orleans on June 15 but have faced challenges ranging from the loss of permits in certain locations — such as Louisiana State University — to cast and crew quitting.
Voight and Robert Davi each play a conservative Supreme Court justice, while Stacey Dash is playing former National Right to Life president Mildred Jefferson.
Corbin Bernsen, John Schneider, Steve Guttenberg, William Forsythe, Wade Williams, and Richard Portnow also star in the film as Supreme Court justices.
"We had to replace three local actors, including one who was to play Norma McCorvey, even after she begged for the role," Loeb said.
McCorvey was at the center of Roe v. Wade via her legal pseudonym Jane Roe.
After Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement last week, Democrats jumped on the abortion issue and said President Donald Trump will try to appoint someone who could potentially play a role in overturning Roe v. Wade as Kennedy's replacement.
