Moderators Announced for Presidential Debates

The Commission on Presidential Debates announced the moderators for the presidential and vice presidential debates, with the moderating roles for the four debates evenly split between male and female journalists for the first time, according to the New York Times.

Jim Lehrer of PBS NewsHour will host the first presidential debate, set to take place Oct. 3 at the University of Denver. The following week, Martha Raddatz of ABC News will host the vice presidential debate, set for Oct. 11 at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky.

The second presidential debate will be a town meeting style contest, in which citizens will ask candidates questions and will be hosted by Candy Crowley of CNN. The debate is set for Oct. 16 at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. Crowley is the first female moderator for a presidential debate since ABC’s Carole Simpson in 1992.

The third presidential debate will be hosted by Bob Schieffer of CBS News and is set for Oct. 22 at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla.

All debates will take place from 9:00-10:30 p.m. Eastern Time and there will be no opening statements in the debates.
