Polo mogul John Goodman, who was sentenced to 16 years in jail last week for killing a man in a drunken driving incident, was released from jail on Friday pending appeal.
Goodman, 48, will remain on house arrest until the appeal case can be heard, the
Palm Beach Post reported.
Goodman, whose case made national headlines when he adopted his 42-year-old girlfriend in an attempt to protect his assets from the parents of the dead man, was only freed after posting a $7 million bond.
He also has to pay for an off-duty sheriff’s deputy to stay within 100 feet of him at his estate in Wellington, Fla., at all times until the appeal starts.
Goodman had been in jail since March when he was convicted of DUI homicide of Scott Wilson. Goodman plowed his Bentley into Wilson’s car, pushing it into a canal where Wilson drowned.
