Pew: 109 Counties Become Majority Nonwhite Since 2000

Between 2000 and 2018, 109 counties in 22 states have gone from a white majority to a nonwhite majority, a new Pew Research Center analysis reveals.

The results of the analysis were released Wednesday and detailed in a story by the Daily Caller.

The analysis noted, a total of 293 counties in the U.S. were majority nonwhite in 2018. Most of those counties were in California, the South, and along the East Coast.

And Pew noted several majority white counties are likely to flip in the coming years. Fairfax County, Virginia; Pima County, Arizona; Milwaukee County, Wisconsin; and Cobb County, Georgia, all had populations that were less than 52% white, according to Pew.

Of the 109 counties that flipped in the past 18 years, 26 of them were at least 60% white in 2000.

Pew said the shift to a more "diverse nation is happening more quickly in some place than in others."
