Rep. Pete King on Sunday urged prayer for New York City Police Officer Brian Moore, who was
shot in the head on Saturday.
King issued a statement on Sunday that he had visited Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in Queens, where Moore, 25, is in critical condition.
"His family, which includes a long line of police officers, are grief-stricken, but amazingly strong," King said. "The hallways outside Officer Moore's room were lined with NYPD officers including fellow members of his elite Anti-Crime Unit. They are all very tough guys but now all they can do is pray and hope."
Moore was shot while trying to stop a man suspected of carrying a handgun on Saturday in the Queens Village neighborhood. Demetrius Blackwell, 35, was arrested near the crime scene about 90 minutes later.
"Talking to the cops and seeing Brian Moore's condition drives home just how dangerous a cop's job is," King said. "I truly wish that the many cheap-shot artists and critics of the police could walk in their shoes for even one night. But for now we should all be praying for Brian Moore and his family – and for all the brave men and women in Blue."
