According to a White House official, more than 2,200 people affected by the deadly tornadoes in Oklahoma had registered with FEMA for direct assistance made available through the major disaster declaration which was issued Monday night, reports the Washington Times.

That number is current through Wednesday night.

Secretary of Homeland Security Janet A. Napolitano, surveyed the damage firsthand Wednesday, and President Obama is due to visit the state Sunday to meet with and console impacted families and offer thanks to first responders.

More than 400 federal personnel are still in Oklahoma assisting with tornado recovery efforts.

FEMA and federal partners have provided more than 127,000 liters of water and nearly 30,000 meals have been delivered to the state to support response efforts, the official said.
