The federal government made more than $100 billion in incorrect payments in 2012 to those participating in the various entitlement programs, according to data from the Office of Management and Budget.
The top five entities that showed improper payments, which include both fraud and mistakes, were Medicare Fee-for-Service, Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, the Earned Income Tax Credit, Unemployment Insurance, and Supplemental Security Income,
National Review Online reported.
There is concern that the problem will worsen under Obamacare.
The Fiscal Times reported in January that the federal government made $688 billion in improper payments from 2002 to 2012.
"The reality is that federal spending has grown too massive to be adequately overseen, and the resultant waste, fraud, and abuse squanders public resources and undermines trust in government," Veronique de Rugy, senior research fellow at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University," wrote in National Review Online.
