Instagram carried out an unintended survey about the Affordable Care Act,
BuzzFeed reported.
"The survey was posted in error and it was pulled down as soon as it was discovered," a Facebook official told BuzzFeed. Instagram is owned by Facebook.
Scores of Instagram users were struck by the survey on their feeds Saturday. "Can you answer a quick question for Instagram's Partners?" asked one pop-up. Those who clicked "next" were asked: "In the past 2 days, do you recall seeing a message about healthcare.gov on Facebook?"
Users were requested to indicate either yes, no, or don't know.
Another version of the pop-up survey asked users: "What's the last day to sign up for health insurance through the affordable care act?"
Some Instagram users took to social media to complain about the pop-ups that coincided with the latest
Obamacare registration deadline. Sunday, Feb. 15, was the last day to sign up for coverage that starts March 1.
Ryan Lee tweeted, "Instagram survey just took over my feed. Asked me about the affordable care act. New ad product?"
Meleyna Nomura tweeted: "Why did @instagram just ask me about Obamacare."
According to BuzzFeed, neither the purpose of the survey nor its intended demographic target is known.
